About This Lab
Key Terms: Enzymes, Biochemistry, SARS-CoV2 Drug, Therapeutics
What is your research about and how would you describe your work at the undergraduate/basic level?
I work on enzymes and in particular proteases. I am interested in how these proteases play roles in disease and how this information could be used to develop therapeutics. Our recent work included the study of the SARSCoV2 protease and examined if a drug used to treat a feline coronavirus could work in humans.
What kind of students are you looking for (e.g. summer students, volunteers, upper year thesis students, grad students)?
I am primarily seeking a thesis student, but we typically have many students at all levels. Next summer may be more restricted but we can consider virtual learners too.
What techniques do you utilize and what equipment does your lab have?
We use molecular biology, protein biochemistry, enzymology (enzyme kinetics) and X-ray crystallography.
A fun fact about you that may surprise your students?
I have a black belt in karate!
