About This Lab

Key Terms: Viruses, Drug resistance, Biochemistry, Genetics, Immunology

What is your research about and how would you describe your work at the undergraduate/basic level?

My research is about Poxvirus-host interactions, Vaccinia virus replication and drug resistance mechanisms, Vaccinia recombination mechanisms, vaccine vectors and, oncolytic viruses. I develop cloning & Infusion techniques. I am currently working to develop Covid-19 vaccine.

What kind of students are you looking for (e.g. summer students, volunteers, upper year thesis students, grad students)?

Iā€™m taking project and summer students, 3rd year immin students, genetics majors and biochemistry majors also, master students but, not taking PhD students.

I do like to see completed 3rd years, senior year students, I like to have hands on laboratory courses for students in cloning, pipetting, agarose gel running, RE digest.

What techniques do you utilize and what equipment does your lab have?

We use biochemical and molecular-genetic methods infusion techniques, cell and virus culture, purify recombinant virus, IF imaging, confocal microscopy, live cell imaging, killing tumor cells, developing animal tumor models in mice and rats, genome screen siRNA screen, knocking down cellular protein, purification of protein to investigate mechanisms of poxvirus recombination and its linkage to replication.
